New report forms to aid health, welfare, property and finance decisions
Court appointed deputies are to receive new and improved report forms for health and welfare decisions and property and financial decisions
The Office of the Public Guardian has indicated that Court appointed deputies are to receive new and improved report forms for health and welfare decisions and property and financial decisions. This was reported by the Office of the Public Guardian on the 1st March and is expected to come into force shortly. Property and financial decisions and health and welfare decisions will replace the existing form and deputies will receive specific forms tailored to their type of deputy order. Following the user testing, the new forms are much clearer and can prove guidance to make them easier to complete. There is also to be introduced a short version of the form allowing the existing property and financial deputies assessed under minimal supervision to complete the shorter version of the form when they report for the first time.
The Office of the Public Guardian is responsible for supervising and supporting deputies and has in recent years increased safeguarding measures so there is a dedicated section in the property and financial decision forms, but it is an area that requires continued improvement given the aging population of the United Kingdom and the increase in deputy Court order applications and Office of the Public Guardianship/Court of Protection work.
The Public Guardianship office take the view that there is a duty of care on the part of the office to deputies and their clients to address and redesign the form so as to ensure that it suits their needs with a new look and feel which makes the process more straight forward.
