Practice and Procedure in the Criminal Courts – Newton Hearings
A Newton Hearing is also known as a trial of an issue. If you plead guilty but say you have not done all that is alleged against you and it will make a difference to how you are sentenced then a Newton Hearing takes place. The hearing is to determine whether in fact you have done all that is alleged against you.
The outcome of the hearing enables the Judge to sentence you on the correct basis. Our Director, Duncan Nightingale is a Duty Solicitor and Higher Court Advocate.
