Flexible Working - the law changed on the 30th June 2014

All employees who have worked for an organisation for more than 26 weeks now have the right to request flexible working arrangements.

This right previously only applied to parents with children under the age of 17 (or 18 if the child is disabled) and certain carers.

There are many forms of flexible working such as part time working, flexi-time, job sharing, shift working or working elsewhere such as home working. You can find an ACAS code of practice guide on the ACAS website for assistance and help in understanding the changes and how to hand requests in a reasonable manner. If you would like to take advice on such issues then please contact Matthew Winder a Solicitor and Director of Clarkson Hirst Solicitors Limited who are based at Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow – Telephone 0800 919 231
