Prison for gas fitter after work put family in danger
A Derbyshire plumber has been sent to prison after putting his customers lives at risk. He decommissioned, moved and re-commissioned the boiler. He was not qualified to do so and was not registered with Gas Safe. He was prosecuted by the Health & Safety Authority and pleaded guilty to breaching the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998. He was sentenced to two months in prison and ordered to pay costs of £1,000.
The case highlights the importance of using a registered gas fitter for the maintenance and installation of all gas installations. It also highlights the serious view the Court took of the particular gas fitter in this case who chose to ignore his legal obligations.
