Legal Aid concession offered by Ministers
The Government appear to have changed their plan to remove the right of legal aid defendants in criminal cases in England and Wales to choose their solicitor. The Ministry of Justice have announced that they intend to allow choice for defendants to use their own solicitors. Defendants have always been able to choose their own solicitor and that right continues to the present day. The Government’s proposal to reform legal aid had included a plan to remove client choice so that clients would have no choice as to which solicitor they use. The Law Society is concerned that that would drive down quality because there would be no incentive on a solicitor to do a good job for their client.
We appreciate that it is most important that we do a good job for you and we recognise fully if we don’t do a good job for you, you will not use us again. That is why we monitor feedback from clients.
All our clients are invited to fill in a quality feedback form at the end of their case so that they can feed back to me on their experience of dealing with Clarkson Hirst.
Our criminal defence team at Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow work extremely hard to provide a high quality service to their clients. One client’s feedback to me this week was from a Mr J from Lancaster who stated in his relations to dealing with Duncan Nightingale “Fantastic and wouldn’t use any other thank you”. If you are looking for a solicitor who will take care to listen and provide you with high quality legal advice in the police station, Magistrates Court or Crown Court then do contact our criminal defence team.
