Our Charges

We  appreciate how concerned all clients are about meeting the costs of legal services.  At Clarkson Hirst we discuss these issues with you frankly and openly and explain to you the various ways in which you can meet our charges.

If your case is one where a no win no fee agreement would be appropriate we will discuss and fully explain this with you at the outset to enable your to decide what best suits you - for further information please visit our Personal Injury page.

We will always give to you full details of our Private charging rates, together with our best estimate of the likely costs of your case.  To avoid you worrying about costs, we will let you have invoices on a regular basis which you can pay by cheque, cash or credit card if you prefer.  We can also arrange for you to pay by monthly direct debit.

For some work we are prepared to undertake the work for a fixed fee the areas of work are:

• Divorce £450.00 + VAT + £300 Court Fee& £40.00 Decree Absolute fee. 

• Lasting Power of Attorney (without registration) £250 + VAT

• Lasting Power of Attorney (with registration) £350 + VAT and court fee of £150 per individual

• a residential tenancy agreement for £150.00 + VAT, 

• we charge £75.00 + VAT for a single basic will

• Inheritance Tax Planning Will £500.00 + VAT

• Change of Name Deeds £75.00 + VAT

• Deed of Trust £150.00 + VAT

• Pre-Nuptial Agreement/Living Together Agreement/Co-habitation Agreement £250.00 + VAT

• Agreed Deed of of Separation £300.00 + VAT

• Mortgage Consent Forms for Occupiers £60.00 + VAT

• Agreed Parental Responsibility Agreements £150.00 + VAT and court fees applicable. 

• Severance of Tenancy £75.00 + VAT 

These fees are subject to prior agreement with you which agreement will be set out in our firm's terms of business letter.

Our current hourly rate applicable until the 1st April 2011 is £165 per hour + VAT.  That rate is applied to the Solicitors employed by our firm.  The rate for newly qualified solcitors at our office is £145.00 per hour.  We charge the rate of £95.00 per hour + VAT for Trainee Solicitors and Paralegals.

Her Majesties Court Service issues guideline figures for the Court on assessing reasonableness of Solicitors costs.  In 2008 the hourly rate for Solicitors with over 8 years qualification experience for Lancaster and Cumbria was £174.00 per hour.  The acceptable rate for the out of Manchester area was £191.00 per hour.

The Court guidelines figures for Solicitors rates for Lancaster 2008 where the solicitor has over 4 years experience was £156.00 per hour.  For a similar Solicitor based in the out of Manchester area, the rate appropriate was £168.00 per hour.  At Clarkson Hirst, our hourly rate of £150.00 per hour for non-newly qualified Solicitors is substantially less than the guideline figure issued by the Court.
